Birkenhead Park Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan Consultation

Birkenhead Park is a conservation area; this means that it is a place of special architecture and historic interest and it is nationally recognised. Local Authorities have a duty to review, from time to time, their conservation areas to ensure that these places are being properly protected. The current conservation appraisal was adopted in 2007. The Council aims to update the existing document and look to the future management of the park, working to enhance and preserve what makes the area special. The proposals support the policies laid out in the Wirral Local Plan and Birkenhead Park World Heritage Site nomination.

A new Appraisal and Management Plan of Birkenhead Park Conservation Area has been drafted for review; this can be found in the Documents area of this page. The document has been produced following a number of site visits, initial informal public consultation and an appraisal process. The document seeks to explore the character and significance of the area, providing an understanding of the historic interest of Birkenhead Park. The management plan at the end of the document aims to support its long-term management, recommending specific priorities that can support and enhance the area as it looks to the future. Following an understanding of the area’s significance, it is not proposed to alter the boundary of the area. A map of the area can be found in the Document section of this page.

Management plans of conservation areas directly affect those who live in the area, and as part of the process to update the report, we are asking for feedback from residents and interested stakeholders and groups. This can be done by completing the survey below or in person with a discussion with Council officers during the planned event. All the feedback provided will be reviewed and used to update the plan.
