Car Parking Charges - Traffic Regulation Orders Consultation

Thank you for your feedback, this consultation has now closed, the results are being analysed and the findings will be reported once available.

In June 2021 and August 2021, the council’s Environment Climate Emergency and Transport Committee and Decision Review Committee, respectively, approved raising an additional £1million from parking charges as part of the process of setting a balanced budget for 2021/22 financial year.

This decision approved the introduction of standardised charges across all council owned car parks and parking locations, both on-street and off-street. These standardised charges were introduced on 6 September 2021.

The decision made also allows the council to bring in parking charges at some new locations that are currently free. These parking charges and controls are planned to be introduced at a number of on-street and off-street parking spots and car parks both in coastal and town centre locations.

Charging will allow the council to provide a fair and sustainable parking policy and continue to provide public car parks and access areas into the future in a fair and sustainable manner, given the financial strains on other areas. Charges are already in place in many other Council-provided car parks in other communities.

Blue (disabled) badge holders would be exempt from the requirement to pay for parking as long as a valid badge is clearly displayed.
