School Streets - Greenleas Primary School

This consultation is now closed, thank you for your contribution.

Greenleas Primary School and Wirral Council worked together to trial a ‘School Streets’ scheme. This scheme has now been made permanent.

A School Street is a stretch of road outside a school that is temporarily closed to traffic during school drop-off and pick-up times.

The roads that are closed to general traffic at Greenleas Primary School include:

Greenleas Close

Green Lane (a small section of the road outside the school)

This then limits traffic in the roads outside the school at key times and creates a predominantly car free zone.

The map below shows which roads are closed during the School Street operational hours.

When will the School Street be in operation?

Operational hours of the School Street will be from 8.30am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 3.30pm. Only pedestrians, cyclists or motorists with an exemption will be able to access the School Street during these times.

Why are you introducing a School Street?

Greenleas Close is very narrow and can be dangerous when cars drive right up to the school gates and then need to turn around. Instead, this scheme will encourage families to walk, cycle, scoot or park further away from the school and walk the last part of the journey. Many children and families are already doing this, and it would be great to see even more people joining them.

Where can I park to drop my child/children off?

Any other roads other than Greenleas Close and the small section of Green Lane can be used to park during the School Street operational hours but please be considerate of residents and existing parking restrictions.

What else are you doing in this area?

Greenleas Primary School and Wirral Council are also working together to plan some minor changes at the junction of Green Lane, Greenleas Road and Bayswater Road, to make the road narrower and make the road easier to cross. This will be done by improving the road markings and introducing an advisory 20mph speed limit on the approaches to the school.
