Mother Redcap Place (Liscard) Public Realm Improvements

Wirral Council has secured funding from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund to revitalise Liscard Town Centre.

Part of the funding will focus on transforming an area known as ‘Mother Redcap Place’, which is the area outside of McDonalds illustrated below, consisting of Greenfields way leading into the Cherry Tree Centre and the bus stop on Liscard Crescent.

Mother Redcap Place

1,2, 3. New paving to enhance space.

4. Loading Bay: The existing loading bay will be resurfaced with better quality materials.

5. Pedestrian Crossings: Improved connections to the bus stops.

6. Footway and Vehicle Access: The footway will be levelled, with easy access for vehicles to homes, and resurfaced with better paving.

7. Widened Bus Stop Area: The space will be widened to provide a better bus-stop area, with more space for people to sit and wait.

8. Landscaped Area: A landscaped area will be created, with the Mother Redcap statue remaining in its current location.

9. Tree Care: We will endeavour to retain existing trees and give them better conditions to thrive.

10. Rain Gardens: Sustainable drainage will be installed along the bus route edge to collect surface water runoff and provide screening from vehicles.

11. Street Furniture: New benches with armrests and backrests will be added to protect planted areas and provide accessible seating.

12. Stone Blocks: Will be used to prevent vehicle access and provide additional seating.

13. Cycle Stands: A new area will be set aside for bike stands.

We have developed concept designs, available to view in the documents section, for the area to help make it more welcoming and vibrant space.

You can also learn more about the proposals and give feedback in person at two drop in events taking place at the Cherry Tree Centre on 28th June between 10am and 2pm, and 2nd July between 1.30 -5.30pm.

All the comments will be reviewed and considered for the final design in early 2026.
