Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment 2022-2025

The consultation has now closed, thank you for your contributions. A consultation report will be published in due course.

A Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) describes current pharmacy services in Wirral along with an assessment of the needs of the local people for pharmacy services. Development of a PNA requires engagement with members of the public and other stakeholders to ensure the developed PNA accurately reflects the need of the area.

Consultation is being carried out in two phases. The first phase of consultation at the end of 2021 showed that Wirral is well served by community pharmacies and residents are used to them being there when they need them, dispensing medicines, good advice and more.

Having considered the findings of the first consultation including information from local pharmacies, Wirral’s Health and Wellbeing Board has reported it is satisfied there is no gap in provision of pharmaceutical services in Wirral. On Wednesday 23 March 2022, the Board published a draft of its latest Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA), which describes current pharmacy services in Wirral along with an assessment of the needs of the local people for pharmacy services.

This second phase of the consultation is asking residents to provide feedback on the draft 2022-2025 PNA, particularly if there are omissions, additions or any general comments that can be made.

The Draft PNA is published on the Documents section of this page along with the Easy Read Survey. The Draft PNA is also available to review in Bebington Central, Birkenhead Central, Wallasey Central and West Kirby Libraries.

Following the findings of this consultation the new PNA will be published by 30 September 2022. It will continue to be used to inform commissioning decisions by local authorities, NHS England, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and soon to be formed local Integrated Care System and Board.
