Price Street Consultation

Price Street is a key route to reach different homes, businesses, schools, colleges, churches and community facilities. It also connects to several roads and provides access to Birkenhead Town Centre for more businesses, shopping and places of work. We want to make sure everyone can move around the area safely and easily, whether they travel by walking, wheeling, cycling or driving.

For this reason, Price Street has been identified for review to understand whether improvements could be made. A scheme was previously proposed in 2022, but did not progress. Wirral Council now intends to take a fresh approach, working closely with local residents, schools and businesses to explore new ideas for how Price Street could be improved in the future.

This project focuses on the section of Price Street between Beaufort Road and Argyle Street. Engagement will include workshops, face‑to‑face sessions and online consultation to support a more inclusive co‑design process with the local community. This area is shown on the map below.

What happens next?

This is the first phase of consultation. Using your feedback, along with technical guidance, we will develop a design for Price Street. Funding from Active Travel England currently covers consultation and engagement to support the development of these plans. Once completed, the plans and consultation findings will be presented to the council’s Environment, Climate Emergency and Transport Committee for review.

Any future proposals for physical changes to the road would be consulted on in a second phase, and any final scheme would require formal committee approval. At this stage, funding is not available to construct a final scheme, but this engagement will help strengthen future funding applications.

Mott MacDonald (transport consultants) and PLACED (a local community engagement social enterprise) are supporting the council with this project.
