Hind Street Urban Village (Borough)

Ion Property Developments (Ion) and Wirral Council are working together on exciting plans to transform vacant and underutilised land to the north and south of Hind Street, Birkenhead into a new sustainable urban village, which we are thinking of calling ‘Borough’.

The vision is to regenerate this former industrial site including up to 1,600 new homes, accessible public realm including new strategic open space (Dock Branch South) and public squares, a primary school, complementary commercial uses such as offices, shops, cafes and restaurants, healthcare, nursery services, care services and hotel, and a multi-storey car park and mobility hub.

Part of the vision for Borough builds on the draft Local Plan proposal to remove Borough Road (A5227) and Queensway Tunnel flyovers by reconfiguring the gyratory outside of Birkenhead Central Station and rationalising the Tunnel approach area to create a more welcoming gateway to the town and to encourage more investment opportunities.

Before a planning application is submitted to Wirral Council as Local Planning Authority, we are sharing the draft proposals with you and seeking your views on key aspects and principles, so that we can maximise the benefits of these proposals for the local community.

In person public consultation sessions where you can find out more, ask the development team questions and take part in Hind Street walking tour are being held:

Friday 19th May : 12 - 6 pm and Saturday 20th May : 10 - 2 pm.

At BirkenEd’s Place 8-10 Borough Pavement, Grange Precinct, Birkenhead, CH41 2XX.

You can find out more about the project at the Borough website.
