Become a Champion
20mph speed limits are being introduced in different areas around the borough to help support people to live safer and healthier lives.
Everyone in Wirral can help make a difference and make travelling to the speed limit (where the traffic conditions allow) the new normal.
If you would like to support the campaign, there are a number of ways you can get involved to promote 20mph speed limits and their importance, in your local area.
Safer Roads Watch
In Wirral, we have a Safer Roads Watch scheme, developed for members of the public to take a proactive role in improving safety in their community. Speed is a contributory factor in many collisions on the roads, working with the council and Merseyside Police, police vetted volunteers monitor speeds as part of a number of initiatives to reduce the numbers of people killed or seriously injured on the network.
Police vetted volunteers monitor the speed of vehicles and record the vehicle registration details of those exceeding the posted speed limit, the information is processed by Merseyside Police. Registered vehicle owners receive a letter and education pack from Merseyside Police as part of an education and awareness raising programme.
