Charing Cross and Grange Road Active Travel Scheme Phase 2
Wirral Council has received a £2.969 million funding package from the UK Governments Future High Streets Fund. We are proposing to use this funding to make improvements on Grange Road, within the Charing Cross junction and on Grange Road West.
The fund was set up to make high streets and town centres fit for the future and as the area of Grange Road and Charing Cross is a particularly busy part of Birkenhead town centre – this is the area we think will benefit a lot of residents and local business.
The suggested improvements comprised of three schemes designed to provide a more attractive place for people to shop, live, visit or work and to support the regeneration of Birkenhead town centre by providing an improved, better connected and more sustainable experience for all who use this area.
Phase 1 of this engagement asked people to share their thoughts regarding three schemes. A summary of the findings from the phase 1 engagement can be found in the documents section.
Phase 2
The 2nd and final phase of consultation is to give notice and specific detail of the Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO’s) that will be required to make the proposals effective.
TROs are legal documents that restrict or prohibit the use of the highway network, in line with the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. They help us to manage the highway network for all road users, including pedestrians and they aim to improve road safety and access to facilities.
We are proposing to introduce the following TRO's on Grange Road West and Grange Road:
Grange Road West
One-Way road
On street parking restrictions
Grange Road
Prohibition of driving

It is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 11:00am to 4:30pm and Saturday 11:00am to 4:00pm. Plans will be available on request at any time during the consultation period.
Alternatively, large-scale plans are also available for viewing at Birkenhead Town Hall, Mortimer Street, Birkenhead CH41 5EU (Opening hours Monday to Saturday, 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm). Plans will be available on request at any time during the consultation period.
Any written expressions of support or objections can be sent to: FREEPOST WP7 WALKING AND CYCLING, quoting the scheme name Charing Cross & Grange Road on the letter.
Your letter needs to clearly state whether you are submitting an expression of support or an objection, along with the grounds on which they are made.
